Suffolk couple stole £200K intended for disabled son’s care
A couple from Suffolk has been sentenced to prison after stealing £200,000 that was intended for the care of their disabled son. The couple, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were found guilty of fraud after transferring the funds meant for their son’s care into their own accounts over a period of several years.
The couple’s son, who suffers from a severe disability that requires round-the-clock care, was left without the necessary funds to cover his medical expenses and support services. The theft was discovered when a social worker noticed discrepancies in the son’s finances and alerted authorities.
During the trial, it was revealed that the couple had been living a lavish lifestyle using the stolen funds, including taking luxury vacations and purchasing expensive items. They showed no remorse for their actions and continued to plead their innocence throughout the proceedings.
The judge described their actions as “despicable” and sentenced the couple to seven years in prison each. They were also ordered to repay the stolen funds and provide restitution to their son for the harm caused by their deceit.
