Leisure firm told scanning staff faces is illegal
A leisure firm has been warned by privacy watchdogs that scanning staff faces is against the law.
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) made the ruling after a complaint was made about the practice at a leisure center in Birmingham.
The firm, which has not been named, had installed facial recognition technology to monitor staff attendance and track their movements within the building.
The ICO said that scanning staff faces without their consent was a breach of data protection laws and could lead to legal action.
The firm has agreed to stop using the technology and has apologized to its staff for any inconvenience caused.
