Apple’s Pricey Streaming Faux Pas

Apple fined €1.8bn for breaking streaming rules

Apple has been fined a record €1.8 billion by the European Union for breaching antitrust rules in the online music streaming market.

The European Commission found that Apple abused its dominant position in the market by imposing strict restrictions on app developers who wanted to offer in-app purchases of music subscriptions.

Apple’s anti-competitive behavior stifled competition in the music streaming industry, disadvantaging rivals such as Spotify and Deezer.

This is the largest fine ever imposed by the European Commission for antitrust violations, sending a strong message to tech giants that they must play by the rules.
