Burkina Faso says 170 dead in village ‘executions’
According to reports from officials in Burkina Faso, at least 170 people have been killed in what they are referring to as village ‘executions’ in the country.
The attacks occurred in the Yagha province in the northern part of the country, where armed militants are said to have targeted the village of Solhan. The assailants reportedly arrived on motorcycles and in trucks, carrying out the attacks overnight.
Officials have condemned the violence, with Burkina Faso’s President Roch Marc Christian Kabore describing the attacks as “barbaric” and promising to step up efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
The United Nations has also expressed concern over the escalating violence in Burkina Faso, where extremist groups have been carrying out attacks in recent years, resulting in hundreds of deaths and displacing thousands of people.
Authorities are investigating the incident and working to identify the perpetrators responsible for the village ‘executions’ in Solhan.
