Starmer apologises to Rochdale after Galloway win
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has issued a public apology to the people of Rochdale following the victory of George Galloway in the recent by-election.
In a statement released today, Starmer said, “I want to apologise to the residents of Rochdale for failing to connect with them and address their concerns in the lead up to the by-election. We must do better to regain the trust and support of communities like Rochdale.”
Galloway, who ran as an independent candidate, secured a surprise victory in the by-election, defeating the Labour candidate by a significant margin. The result has been seen as a major setback for Starmer and the Labour Party.
Starmer has promised to visit Rochdale in the coming weeks to listen to the concerns of local residents and work towards rebuilding support for the Labour Party in the area.
It remains to be seen how this apology will be received by the people of Rochdale and what impact it will have on Labour’s standing in the constituency.
