Bob Stewart: MP’s racially aggravated offence conviction quashed
Bob Stewart, a Member of Parliament, has had his conviction for a racially aggravated offence quashed by the Court of Appeal.
The incident in question occurred last year when Stewart was involved in an altercation with a constituent outside of a local community center. During the altercation, racially charged language was used, leading to Stewart’s arrest and subsequent conviction.
However, the Court of Appeal ruled that there was insufficient evidence to support the charge of racially aggravated offense, and the conviction was overturned. Stewart has maintained his innocence throughout the process and expressed relief at the decision.
In a statement following the ruling, Stewart said, “I am grateful to the Court of Appeal for recognizing the truth in this matter. I have always maintained that I did not use racially charged language during the altercation, and I am pleased that justice has been served.”
