PlayStation to axe 900 jobs and close London studio
Sony’s gaming division, PlayStation, has announced that it will be cutting 900 jobs and shutting down its London studio as part of a reorganization plan to focus on top-tier games.
The move comes as PlayStation faces increased competition from other gaming platforms and struggles to keep up with changing consumer preferences.
In a statement, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan said, “We are taking steps to ensure that PlayStation is in the best possible position for the future, including streamlining our operations and focusing on high-quality games that will excite our fans.”
The London studio, which was responsible for developing virtual reality games, will be closed as part of the restructuring. The layoffs will primarily affect employees in Europe and the US.
The decision to cut jobs and close the studio has sparked criticism from some industry experts and fans, who worry about the impact on game development and employee morale.
PlayStation has reassured fans that it remains committed to delivering top-tier gaming experiences and that the restructuring is necessary to ensure the company’s long-term success.
