France expels ‘radical’ Tunisian imam for flag slur
France has expelled a Tunisian imam accused of glorifying violence and making anti-Semitic remarks at the Grand Mosque of Paris.
The imam, identified as Mohammed Tahrir al-Badri, had made derogatory remarks about the French flag during a sermon, prompting outrage from French authorities.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said in a statement that the imam’s behavior was “unacceptable” and that he posed a threat to public order.
This incident comes amid heightened tensions between France and the Muslim community, with President Emmanuel Macron cracking down on what he describes as “radical Islam.”
The expulsion of the imam is likely to further strain relations between France and Tunisia, as both countries navigate complex political and religious issues.
It remains to be seen how this incident will impact the broader conversations around freedom of speech, religious tolerance, and national security in France.
